Yes GLADLY because I absolutely hate how often pro-Israel ppl use pinkwashing (please read that link if you don’t know what pinkwashing is and how Israel has constantly used it as part of its global image agenda) to justify genocide and war crimes. I’ll let you guys read that article because it does more justice to explaining this than I can.

First, it’s really dumb to expect colonized nations to develop socially. Palestine was occupied by the British and then by the Israelis. Now here’s something most people actually gloss over: anti-sodomy laws and anti-homosexuality laws were put into place in Gaza by the British Mandate Criminal Code Ordinance, No. 74 of 1936. Which still remains in effect to this day.

Same-sex acts were actually decriminalized in Jordanian-controlled West Bank in the early 1950s and are still upheld to this day.

Palestine itself has no legislation either for or against homosexuality.

What we SHOULD talk about is how imperialist states (mostly the US and UK) have notoriously supported and propped up Right-Wing regimes in the Islamic world to combat communist ideology. The US, UK, SB, IL have all backed right wing movements like the Muslim Brotherhood (which then became Hamas) just to thwart leftist movements like the PLO who are pro-communist elements of the Islamic world.

Maybe stop colonizing and bombing these countries so they can socially develop. I’m begging you to read Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs so you stop making stupid arguments like this.

He has a loving relationship also.
But his brain is so rotten that he cannot understand happiness anymore. He is incapable of conceptualising it other than in money.
A man who has everything except the ability to feel it.

This man is so so so close to realizing a fundamental truth to how humans operate, but I genuinely don’t think he’s going to get there. Although I’m not sure he realizes it this man views the money he earns as a direct translation of his sense of personal achievement and engagement.
Which means that when he says he regrets the months he didn’t pick up more hours to earn more money, what he’s describing here is boredom. He’s doing it in the crassest, shallowest, most income-obsessed and unattainable for most of us way possible, yes. But this man is expressing that once he achieved a certain financial goal he relaxed, enjoyed himself, got bored, realized on some level he was understimulated, and then started working more hours to meet whatever stimulated activity threshold he personally needs.
This is infuriating because this man experienced the counter-argument to that nonsensical talking point that if we meet people’s financial needs with a universal basic income they’ll grow lazy and won’t do anything.
Anyone trying to develop $200,000 in passive annual income is not working three minimum-wage jobs to live paycheck-to-paycheck. This man’s basic financial needs were met. Working more hours to make more money is just his own personal code for ‘I still needed to use my mind to do things’ (using what might be the only metric of personal achievement he might actually have). This man lived the argument for universal basic income and I genuinely don’t think he realizes that. Once his basic income needs were met he still needed to do things to keep himself stimulated and engaged with his own life.
You see a version of this play out with retirees who leave their jobs, go home, and very quickly find themselves in need of new activities or friends or engagements to keep them present and stimulated in their lives. Ensuring someone’s basic financial needs are met doesn’t make them stop doing things, humans don’t work that way.

I think on top of raising the minimum wage this needs to be a focus of ours as well. We’re overworked, miserable, exhausted. Everyone is jealous when you decide not to do overtime (if you’re even allowed to refuse). Everyone is jealous when you are out two weeks because you caught COVID and are trying to recover. Everyone is jealous if you get 8 weeks off to recover from surgery. “How was your vacation” people will say and I can always hear the bitterness in their voice. Americans are so broken that a ton of us straight up wish to be hurt or sick just to get a few weeks off lol. 1 in 4 Americans don’t get any PTO. The rest get on avg 2 weeks total. We are suffering, my dudes.

My current call center job gives us roughly 6 PTO days a year. Das it. Other than that, it 40hrs a week, not even guaranteed your normal days of at the end of the month.

If it wasn’t for working at home, I’d go insane.

The real answer: holy shit where the fuck do i begin explaining this part of American Psychology without going insane? In a nutshell, American society is constantly teetering on the brink of collapse for one reason or another. Because of:

No Universal Healthcare
Shitty at best education
Infrastructure crumbling before our eyes
Shrinking Middle Class
A culture that is slowly devaluing education

We basically have accepted that a contained Apocalypse/Dystopia is BOUND to happen. We just don’t know what the Triggering Event will be (though it can be argued that we’re already in a Dystopia). Anyways, since the United States government at basically every level doesn’t give 2 shits about the common person, the people have developed a mindset of “Prepare for the worst at the first sign of trouble.”

Ex: the 2020 Toilet Paper shortage or the Gas Shortage of 2017 in Texas.

If you’re not from the United States, you should know we rely HEAVILY on cars to go about our daily lives. Most major cities have some form of public transportation system, but that only serves a fraction of the city population. Keep in mind, MOST people in this country do not live in the city and therefore do not have Public transportation as an option. As a result, we have to rely on cars and subsequently gas. And we’re used to being to fill up basically whenever we want. Take that away, and most people have no means of getting

Food
Medicine
Work
Clothing

We’re basically a country so on edge, we think very much of our individual selves first by overreacting; than being rational and thinking communally, which results in a TON of problems.

TL;DR: we’re really dumb, the country is overall on a downward spiral and we don’t know when the crash is or what form it will take, so we panic rather easily
